Hello from Texas…

Hey y’all! Wow…Texas sure is a big state! But we made it all the way across despite heavy winds and bad roads. Whew! We left Louisiana about 10 days ago (had a great time in Lafayette…stumbled on the Celtic Bayou Fest with some amazing music – French, Cajun and Irish – what a combo! and the Cajun food was yummy), then made our way over to Austin to meet up with my Aunt Denise. She took us to a bunch of wonderful restaurants (Eastside Cafe – awesome!) and cool shopping and music districts. We even went on a “bat cruise” to see the Mexican free-tailed bats fly out from under the Congress Ave bridge…an incredible sight! Austin was a bit crowded because of the SXSW Fest and spring break, but we had a blast. We also made a day trip over to San Antonio and visited The Alamo, went on a river cruise…and, yes, had some delicious meals (check out Rosario’s…some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever had). I highly recommend a visit to San Antonio…the history, architecture and the riverwalk make it a really beautiful and interesting city. I know I’ll be back!

Our next stop in Texas was the funky, artsy, waaaay out-of-the-way town of Marfa. I had to go there after seeing a story about the artist Donald Judd and his unusual art installations. We stayed at a cool RV park called Tumble In Marfa…here’s a picture of our rig there…beautiful sunsets!  We took a tour of Judd’s compound called “The Block”…fascinating guy!… and visited several art galleries. We also went to see the hotel where the movie “Giant” (James Dean’s last movie) was filmed – Hotel Paisano – a lovely place. Our final destination in Marfa was the Prada Marfa store. Well, it’s not exactly a store, much to my disapppointment! It’s yet another amusing art installation in an incredibly amusing town. It was definitely worth the extra miles to get there.

Next stop… New Mexico! Carlsbad caverns, Roswell aliens and more! Email me at [email protected] if you have any travel advice or suggestions or just wanna say “Hi”. 🙂

Peace & love, love, love… KP

Hello from New Orleans…

Hey there! We’re having a blast on our road trip…it began with 4 (yes, four!) NASCAR races in Daytona, including the 500. Fisher really enjoyed the races and meeting the Xfinity Series champ, Daniel Suarez. Then it was on to a couple of beautiful state parks in Florida…and finally…the Big Easy!! We camped near Lake Pontratrain and visited the French Quarter and the Superdome (again, one of Fisher’s favorite places). The highlight for me was having an amazing dinner at Brennan’s (Banana’s Foster…yum!) and experiencing the fantastic jazz music of the Preservation Hall All-Stars (see pic). We were right in front of the trombone player…he was hilarious! All the musicians were so talented and full of joy for their music… it was a thrill and an honor to hear them. If you visit New Orleans, you must go see them! Click HERE for a link to their website.

We finished off our visit with a kayak trip through the swamp at Honey Island near Slidell with New Orleans Kayak Swamp Tours. The cypress trees were beautiful, the house boats were funky…just a great day on the water.

Now it’s on to Lafayette, the heart of Cajun country…and then Austin for South by Southwest. Yay! Take care…

Peace & Love, KP
