Hello from Arizona…

We just spent the last couple of weeks in one of the most awe-inspiring places we’ve ever been…northern Arizona. Our first stop was Lake Powell near Page, AZ. The lake is a gorgeous blue-green, surrounded by white/brown canyons and rocks. Looks kinda like Alaska but with rock glaciers instead of ice. Wow! We stayed right on the lake, which was the perfect place to try out my new inflatable paddleboard. (that’s me paddling around Lone Rock) We had a deliciously authentic Navajo dinner at “Into the Grand”, a local family-owned restaurant which included an awesome Navajo dance and music performance…I’ll post some great pics on Instagram soon. Finally, we took a boat ride through Antelope and Navajo Canyons (stunning places), and Fisher and I hiked over to see Horseshoe Bend at sunset (see pic). Another major Wow!!

Of course, no trip to Arizona is complete without a visit to the Grand Canyon. We’ve seen lots (I mean, LOTS) of canyons on this trip but nothing compares to the grandest of them all! We visited the south rim and hiked about 4-5 miles of the rim trail from South Kaibab to Mather Point on to the Yavapai Geology Museum. It was pretty crowded but worth tolerating the annoying tourists. Ha! (Fisher says we’re not ‘tourists’…we’re ‘adventurers’…I like that)

Next stop… Sin City! Glitter Gulch! LAS VEGAS!

Peace & love, KP

… more from Utah

Almost forgot! While we were in Moab, we visited 2 National Parks…Canyonlands and Arches..that were equally as spectacular as the parks in southwestern Utah. This picture was taken at the rim of one of the amazing canyons in Canyonlands. Look behind us and you’ll see a trail…it starts at the very top of the canyon and winds down to the bottom. It’s called the Shafer Trail (click HERE for a link on dangerousroads.org…yikes!!). We drove it in my Jeep Cherokee…complete with kayaks on top…and it was soooo scary! Single lane with sheer cliffs and super steep drop offs…whoa! If you’re in the Moab area and you have a 4-wheel-drive, go drive the Shafer Trail. Too much fun.

Take care, y’all… KP

Hello from Utah…

Hey y’all… We’ve really been enjoying the month of May. My Dad’s birthday was last week, so my parents traveled to Utah to meet up with us. We celebrated his 80th -wow!- with dinner and an old-west wagon ride at Ruby’s in Bryce Canyon City. Fisher loved our horses, Daisy & Grace, and we all enjoyed the unique cowboy poetry served up by our guide, Cowboy Dave. It was an awesome day!

Before we headed over to Bryce Canyon National Park (a gorgeous place…I’ll post some Instagram pics soon), we spent some time in Moab, one of my favorite towns we’ve visited so far. You’ll never run out of activities there…kayaking, hiking, ATVing, mountain biking and…river rafting on the Colorado. That’s me in the turquoise shirt…woohoo! It was our first time rafting and we had a blast!  Can’t wait to go again. 🙂

Our last stop in Utah was Zion National Park. All I can say is WOW…so beautiful it doesn’t look real. Check out the picture and you’ll see what I mean. Just spectacular.

Next stop…Arizona and the Grand Canyon. Cool! Email me if you want to say ‘Hi’ or if you have any travel suggestions. Take care…

Love, KP
