Song of the week – Classy Chassis

For the 5th installment of the series, we have a song that uses a rockabilly term for a “great body” and takes it a step further. A long time ago, a friend told me about overhearing a guy say, “That Kellie Parr… she used to be HOT!” Ha! Compliment? Hmmm…I’m not so sure but it got me thinking. Later, when I heard the term “classy chassis”, I thought the “classy” part could actually go a bit more retro – like all rockabilly – and mean the vintage, older version of that particular “great body”.  All of my scattered thoughts on the subject (plus my love of automotive & rockabilly terminology) gelled into this song about a pretty, sassy girl… with each verse covering both the youthful version (“hippest, rockin betty” & “red hot queenie”…see pic – that’s me in college!)  and the older, more experienced woman she is today (“hot-rod mama” & “vintage model”). Slightly autobiographical? Perhaps! Click HERE for the album version on bandcamp.com or click below for a new YouTube video from our performance at Shrimp & Grits Fest a few weeks ago. I definitely was HOT on that one… hot and sweaty, that is! Hope you enjoy the song… and let me know what you think. Hot or not?? 😊

Thanks for listening, KP

P.S. Hope you can join me for dinner at The Fish Dock tomorrow night, 7-10pm.

Song of the week – Slow Dance at the Waffle House

For this week’s tune, we have a real-life true-story of a song. Yes, I actually did slow dance in the parking lot of the Waffle House on Saint Simons Island, GA…with someone I had a GIANT crush on, singing a tune from his soon-to-be hit album in my ear! Some of you Island old-timers like me will remember the glory days of the 90s when all kinds of amazing bands played here (thanks to Griffin Bufkin). The subject of this song (who will remain nameless until I get up the nerve to send it to him) played in a couple of awesome bands who performed regularly on the Island. Now he’s a big producer and still tours all over the country. But I guess I don’t need to tell the whole story…click HERE and see if you can figure out who has “wild eyes, black boots and tattoos”. Some of you already know, don’t you?

Thanks for listening, KP

P.S. The graphic above is from a Tshirt my son designed to promote the song. What do you think? And don’t forget to come out to Ember/Mas Lounge on Saturday, 7-10pm, to see me and Lee O’Neal… and Brunswick Porchfest, Sunday, 3-4pm at 1027 Union Street. Fun!
