Well, I’ve always heard that Colorado was a beautiful place, but until you travel there (we visited southern CO), you just can’t appreciate how beautiful it really is. Snow topped mountains are everywhere with adorable towns nestled in between. And the National Parks are fantastic! Our first stop was Great Sand Dunes (see pic). What a bizarre sight…giant sand dunes right next to mountains…apparently created by shifting winds. We climbed to the top (almost), about 600 feet up, and rolled back down. Fun! We also stopped by the little town of Crestone with it’s funky-hippie, spiritual vibe…there’s an entire mountain-side road devoted to spiritual centers (check out my Instagram account – kellieparrmusic – for pics in a few weeks…still catching up!! The Buddhist Stupa was my favorite).

Next up was Mesa Verde National Park. We hiked up the Point Lookout Trail and saw some incredible views of the mountains and valley below. And it was so interesting to see how the Ancestral Puebloans lived..in cliff dwellings in the side of a mountain! We toured ‘Balcony House’ and got an up-close look. Amazing.

We really enjoyed visiting some of the other towns in the area… Creede with it’s rough 4×4 trail to a deserted mining town (the Jeep handled great!), Durango with it’s old west feel and awesome shopping, and Telluride…such a cool little town at an elevation of 8750 feet, wedged in between much higher mountains. Whew! Made it hard for this sea-leveler to breathe! But I found the neatest little shop. Great name, don’t you think??

Next up…UTAH…Moab and lots & lots of canyons. Yay!

Hey y’all… We’ve just finished up 2 wonderful weeks in northern New Mexico. I’ve never seen so many amazing art galleries and jewelry stores! Our first stop was Santa Fe, where we visited several museums (the Museum of International Folk Art and the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum were awesome!) and ate a TON of New-Mexican food…yum!! We did some hiking at Bandelier National Monument (cool petroglyphs and cave dwellings!) and took the train to Albuquerque where we visited my friend, Jon Webb and…of course it had to be done… went to several of the “Breaking Bad” filming locations… I even bought some of the “blue” stuff (BB fans will appreciate that!).

Next up was Taos…wow, what a gorgeous place! Of course you know about my wild-west, saloon gig at Laguna Vista Lodge in Eagle Nest (so much fun…people were dancing and singing along…yay!), but the highlight according to Fisher was our llama hike…yes, LLAMAs! We hiked down into the Rio Grande River Gorge and back out again (ugh…altitude!) with the help of our sweet, furry friend, Bucky (see pic). Such a blast! If you’re ever in the area, check out Wild Earth Llama Adventures. They do a fantastic job…it’s a day we’ll always remember.

Our last adventure in Taos was a visit to Ghost Ranch where Georgia O’Keeffe lived and painted some of her most beautiful works. I can see why she was so inspired by the place…the mountains and colors are absolutely beautiful. We also visited with Ghost Ranch volunteer, friend and fellow Georgian, Rosemary Kaszans…so cool to see someone from home…especially when you’re starting to get a little homesick. 🙁 Well, anyway…

Next up – COLORADO…Rocky Mountain high! Woohoo!

Yes!! That’s right… I can finally do a Music post! If y’all happen to be in the Taos, NM area this weekend, I’ll be playing Sunday, April16 at the Saloon (see pic below) at Laguna Vista Lodge in Eagle Nest. They’re having an Easter potluck dinner starting around 2pm, and I’ll be starting around 3pm. The historic Saloon is so cool…complete with swinging doors…and it dates back to 1898.
