You never know when an idea for a song is gonna hit you. This one started with a message from my good friend, Uncle Dave Griffin, when he reminded me to bring “my man” along to the next Gram Parsons Fest. I thought to myself “my man ain’t my man no more!” (story of my life) which sounded like a good first line for a song. So good, that I repeat it at the end… a little trick I picked up from my fave, John Prine. In between, I use a bunch of bluegrass terminology/imagery to tell the story and deal with my anger and sadness (hence, bluegrass blue) about my man walkin’ out on me. Do I go a bit too far (murder ballad, really?) or is it all in jest? Click HERE to find out. And listen for the acoustic lead guitar stylings of Marc Andress… he’s awesome on this track!
Thanks for listening, KP
P.S. Hope to see y’all at the Shrimp & Grits Festival this Saturday!
