As you may know from my shameless self-promotion (gotta do it, y’all!), my band Kellie & the Kruze-o-matics released a new album last month. I’m always asked where I get ideas for my original songs, so I’m gonna tell you! Every week from now until Christmas, I’ll pick a “song of the week”, post a bandcamp link (with lyrics included) and explain my inspiration. I hope you’ll take the time to listen (one song at a time!) and let me know what you think. So let’s get started with track #1. “I Know Your Song by Heart (Anam Cara)” is my attempt at writing an actual “love” song. I’m pretty good at writing “lost love” songs (lots of practice!), but I decided it was time to write something optimistic and heartfelt. It’s about the search for your soul mate (Anam Cara is a Celtic term for soul friend) and understanding when you find them, you will easily recognize them…to the point of knowing their “song by heart”. What an amazing time we had last weekend at the 25th Annual Gram Parsons Guitar Pull & Tribute Festival!! Thanks so much to Dave Griffin for putting on yet another awesome weekend of peace, love & music! Check out some of my photos below… Kellie & the Kruze-o-matics on stage; me with several of my Gram-ily brothers and sisters (LOVE y’all!); singing “back-up” for the incomparable, Ian Dunlop; me & Charlie Starr of Blackberry Smoke after his incredible set.
