Hello from…where the heck are we?

Hey everybody… we’ve covered a lot of ground in the last 2 weeks! We started out in Texas, headed north into New Mexico, then back east to the Texas panhandle. As you can see, I met up with my new boyfriend in Roswell…he’s kinda odd looking, but he rides a Harley so he can’t be all bad! We had a great time mingling with the aliens and visting the UFO Museum and Research Center. As Mulder from the X-Files would say, “I WANT TO BELIEVE”. Hmmm…maybe…

Before Roswell, we visited Carlsbad Caverns. Wow! I’ve never seen anything quite like it. At 750 feet below ground, you’ll find the most amazing cave formations…stalactites and -mites, columns, soda straws and curtains… absolutely other-worldly. We did a guided tour of the “King’s Palace” – appropriately named – and walked all around the “Big Room”. We also hiked down into the caverns from the “Natural Entrance” (see pic). Stunning, absolutely stunning.

Our last stop on this leg of the trip was Palo Duro Canyon near Amarillo, TX….another beautiful, natural scene. We stayed at the campground at the bottom of the canyon. Yikes!! Driving a 31′ box-on-wheels down a narrow, winding road was a bit scary but we made it down and back up again. Whew. We learned a lot about the history of the area and enjoyed a hike along the canyon floor. We also visited my Aunt Denise and Uncle Paul in Amarillo for a yummy dinner (thanks Paul!!) and a fun jam session (my Aunt is a brilliant musician – classical pianist and music professor). It was a lot of driving around in crazy winds and intimidating terrain but we had a fun time. Next stop…northern New Mexico…Santa Fe and Taos.

Take care y’all, KP
